Six of the Best British Flower Shows in 2021

Published:2021-04-18 14:38:42 By: Fleur Harris

The end of lockdown is drawing near, and with that, we are looking forward to the return of flower shows and exhibitions. From beautifully designed custom gardens to talks by horticultural experts, I am sure you cannot wait to spend summer safely observing displays of horticultural beauty by award-winning designers.

Here are six flower shows that, vaccine rollout pending, we look forward to seeing later this year.

None of these events clash*. So if you want a wide pool of inspiration, you could go to all these shows and take in the wide variety of beauty on offer.

*Dates can change, or flower shows can change, or shows can be cancelled altogether. Capacity may be limited, so pre-booking tickets, if possible, is advised. Information accurate as of 6th April 2021.

1. RHS Chelsea Flower Show (21-26 September 2021).

The Royal Horticultural Chelsea Flower Show, for the first time in 108 years, will hold their world-famous show in September, rather than May.

This will allow florists and garden designers to take advantage of later blooming flowers to create a unique series of gardens that have not been seen before in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

The RHS has already previewed a few gardens that will be on display this September. We particularly like The Psalm 23 Garden designed by Sarah Eberle, which encapsulates the topical message of hope, encouragement, and solace.

Though the Queen and other members of the Royal Family have not confirmed if they will be in attendance this year, they have previously attended this show, which is one of the best in Britain, if not the world.

2. Harrogate Flower Show (20-23 May 2021).

If you cannot wait until September and do not want to miss the spring blossoms, the stunning Harrogate flower show is scheduled for May 2021.

Organised by the North of England Horticultural Society, all proceeds from the exhibition will be used for the promotion of horticulture in the North of England.

As well as full-size show gardens, there will also be square yard designs submitted for approval by tradesmen and members of the public, as well as “talks and demonstrations on everything from raising orchids to roasting onions” by experts in the field. Amazing!

So, as well as gaining visual inspiration from other flower enthusiasts, this is a worthwhile opportunity for those of you with gardening queries the internet just cannot satisfy.

3. BBC Gardeners’ World Live (26-29 August 2021).

An outdoor Special Edition of BBC Gardeners’ World Live will take place at the National Exhibition Centre, from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 August 2021.

Slightly different to their normal indoor show, this exhibition will still feature Show Gardens, which will inspire those with large gardens, and Showcase Gardens for those with small gardens of feature areas.

So, whether you are looking to completely redesign your garden or just improve a small patch slightly, this show in Birmingham is the one for you.

If you go to the exhibition, and are inspired by a particular arrangement or bouquet, and if you live in Birmingham, the host city of 2021’s BBC Gardeners’ World Live, then it is worth noting that Fleur De Luxe offer Birmingham Flower Delivery on a same-day basis, with a 2pm cut-off.

So, if you see something you like in the morning, it could be delivered to your door before the end of the very same day.

4. Blenheim Palace Flower Show, Oxfordshire (25th-27th June 2021).

With over 350 exhibitors present, and located in the scenic grounds of Blenheim Palace, home to the Duke of Marlborough and Winston Churchill, this is a flower show sure to delight enthusiasts of both flowers and historical landscapes.

New for 2021, there will be Floral Street, an entire outdoor road that is creatively decorated with a wide variety of plants and flowers.

There will also be a series of outdoor talks by Gardening experts, who will be on hand to answer your questions about how to grow flowers and cultivate your garden.

5. RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, Richmond (6-11 July 2021).

It is not just the famous flower show in Chelsea that the Royal Horticultural Society are planning this year.

A few miles up the River Thames, they are also planning a show in Richmond to celebrate the late summer blooms in the majestic setting of Hampton Court Palace, home of the Tudor Kings and Queens of England.

There will be some wonderful show gardens incorporating themes of sustainability and wellbeing, as well as Scandinavian Gardens, and Global Impact gardens from inspiring designers.

And there will be a packed schedule of celebrity talks, demonstrations, and workshops on subjects ranging from floristry to design, food to health and wellbeing.

Finally, the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival will feature a Festival of Roses, that will allow you to discover a new favourite variety of the most famous flower.

6. RHS Garden Hyde Hall Flower Show, Essex (4-8 August 2021).

Not based in London? Not a problem. The Royal Horticultural Society has a wide programme of events scheduled, covid permitting, this summer across the United Kingdom.

One of the highlights for us is the event scheduled in Hyde Hall in Essex, which will feature dazzling flower displays and talks by expert horticulturalists, giving you both tips on growing your own garden and practical demonstrations.

And the show is located against the gorgeous backdrop of Hyde Hall, a former farm converted since the 1950s into a publicly accessible garden run by the Royal Horticultural Society.
