Wedding flowers made easy: 7 Steps to Order Bridal Flowers

Published:2021-05-01 14:04:18 By: Fleur Harris

Congratulations! You're getting married and planning your wedding. Weddings are so much fun to plan, but they can also be stressful because of all the details you need to keep track of.

But one detail that many brides forget about is their flowers! Flowers are an important part of a wedding day, and if you want them to look gorgeous, you will definitely need some help from a professional florist.

This blog post gives you 7 steps on how to order beautiful floral arrangements for your big day without any hassle at all!

Step One: Figure Out Your Budget

It is important to know how much you are willing and able to spend on your wedding flowers. Floral designers charge a wide range of rates, from very low bargain deals (under £100) up to premium high quality bouquets (£1000 or more). This pricing includes the cost of bouquets, corsages, and your wedding floral stands.

You don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get something bespoke and beautiful – just look at some of the amazing options on our website if you want some inspiration! – but for stunning quality, you may want to spend at least £200 on your arrangements.

Step Two: Pick a Theme You Want to Go With

There are many different themes you can go for. Do you want something traditional and classic, or maybe more contemporary with festive colours? Is staying close to your family's traditions what's important to you, or would you like to make something that's never been seen before? This is your chance to get creative and have a wedding that's all about you!

Step Three: Pick a Colour that Complements your Theme

Your theme will dictate what colour your flowers could be. Traditional weddings often have a cream or white hue, with pops of pink for the bridesmaids and little boys' suits. There are also classic shades like deep red and bright blue that you can go for if these strike your fancy!

Pick a colour that matches your theme (say purple) and then choose flowers within that hue from the wide range available: dahlias, lavenders, irises, or more!

Step Four: Pick Your Flower Type

Almost every flower has a deeper meaning which should match your wedding style. For example, if you're going for an elegant wedding with lots of white details, you might want to go for roses or lilies. If you're going for a more rustic vibe, try adding in some sunflowers or daisies.

Step Five: Pick Your Flower Arrangement

In addition to the flower type, you'll also need two other things in order to decide on a specific arrangement. You'll want pick your style of bouquet (basket or spray), and then pick how many flowers you can use per stem for each centrepiece.

You'll often see spray roses at a wedding – they look gorgeous at the altar! And you'll more often see flower baskets carried by the flower girl.

Step Six: Pick Your Flower Delivery Location and Timeframe

You'll want to order your flowers as soon as possible if you don't live local to the florist. You can usually get them delivered within three days of your wedding, but getting the flowers the day before is your safest bet so you can plan for every eventuality.

Step Seven: Choose Your Complementary Wedding Flowers

We recommend buying a mixed bunch of flowers for your wedding bouquet. What does that mean? It means you can choose a variety of colours and different heights to make the arrangement look fuller and more delightful.

The 60-30-10 rule is a simple one used by designers that might just blow your mind in how effective it is: make 60% of your flowers or bouquets your 'main' flower to decorate your wedding. Make 30% the 'second' bouquet of choice, which complements the flower you've already selected. And finally, make 10% of your arrangements something that contrasts with your other two selections, to stand out even more. And as simply as that, you'll put together a stunning selection with ease!

For example, if you choose a traditional lily of the valley as your main flower type, complement them with some white snowdrops, and contrast them with some colourful tulips. This is a classic combination, yet it looks elegant and modern in almost every occasion.

This is a good start, but don't worry if you find yourself running out of ideas. We have dozens of gorgeous flowers and bouquets, with next-day delivery available across the United Kingdom and same-day delivery in Birmingham.
