Why we love the Chelsea Flower Show
The Chelsea Flower Show is one of the most prestigious and well-known garden shows in the world. Wondering when it will be in 2021? Or whether royalty plans to be in attendance? This blog will give you all you need to know about Britain’s largest flower show.
1. What is the Chelsea Flower Show?
Chelsea Flower Show is a world-famous horticultural show that has taken place in London nearly every year since 1912. It was first held to celebrate the coronation of King George V.
The show features conferences, talks, demonstrations as well as plants and garden features from all around the world. Visitors can also purchase plants, seeds, flowers, and accessories from a variety of approved vendors at the show.
The show has been held every year in May, with the event being cancelled during the world wars and 2020. There were online events in May 2020 and May 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
To celebrate the return of in-person events, a special September special is being held in 2021.
2. When is the 2021 Chelsea Flower Show?
The 2021 Chelsea Flower Show will be held Tuesday 21st September to Sunday 26th September 2021.
The show will be open every day at 8am. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday it will close at 8pm, on Friday it will be open until 10pm and on Sunday, the final day, the show will close at 5:30pm.
This is the first time in 108 years that the show is being held in September, and this will give organisers and exhibitors the chance to showcase flowers which thrive in later months of the year.
3. Where is the 2021 Chelsea Flower Show?
After two online flower shows, the 2021 Chelsea Flower Show is back in-person at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, a gorgeous 17th century Grade II listed building located in West London.
4. How can I get to the 2021 Chelsea Flower Show
The nearest tube station for the show is Sloane Square which is on the Circle and District Line. The Hospital is also easy to access using the 170 bus.
5. What should I look out for at the Chelsea Flower Show
The Chelsea Flower Show is a must-see event for all gardeners. The show gardens are designed by the very best designers in the horticultural industry.
And there are loads this year by award-winning designers.
This year's highlight will be Marie Louise Agius' COP26 design which shows how plants can protect our planet from the impact of climate change. This garden has been commissioned in view of the fact the UK is hosting this year’s climate change conference in Edinburgh.
There will also be educational exhibits exploring innovations in the world of plants of flowers in the Discovery Zone that promises to delight any budding gardener with its interactive displays and exciting new discoveries!
One more amazing feature of this year’s show is the House Plant studio, which has been brought to the show to recognise the growing popularity of indoor gardening. This exhibition will provide you with excellent information on how to make your home space greener, regardless of temperature or natural lighting.
6. How much is it to enter the Chelsea Flower Show?
At the time of writing, tickets are available for Saturday and Sunday are £66.75 for Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) members and £83.75 for members of the public.
Tickets for late (5:30-10pm) on Friday are available for £95.75.
Ticket prices are due to increase on August 30th, so book now to avoid disappointment!
6. What safety measures will be in place at the 2021 Chelsea Flower Show
Though nearly all restrictions have been lifted by the government, the organisers of this event have put extra measures in place to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
They have reduced attendance for each day compared to their last show in May 2019, compensating for this by adding an extra day to their calendar.
They will ensure socially distanced queuing at entry and exit points to the venue.
Cashless payments and wearing of masks in indoor spaces will be encouraged wherever possible.
And the organisers are cooperating with NHS track and trace.
7. Will the Queen be at the Chelsea Flower Show?
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is not expected to attend the 2021 Chelsea Flower Show
While the Queen has attended the Chelsea Flower Show many times, most recently in 2019, the coronavirus pandemic and advanced age has caused her to reduce the number of in-person she has engaged in.
8. Conclusion
I’m sure this blog has made you just as excited as we are for the return, in-person, of the Chelsea Flower Show after a 2.5 year hiatus.
There will be a chance for all interested in plants and flowers to admire aesthetically stunning flowers, learn about how plants can help combat climate change, and attend talks by some of the world’s leading horticultural experts.
Tickets are still available for the show; however, they are running out fast. We would recommend booking now to avoid disappointment.
